Förklaring

Both greetings are polite. 안녕하세요 is the default you will use with most adults: classmates, café staff, new coworkers in ordinary settings.

안녕하십니까 is more formal and deferential. Announcements, very formal service, military or news style, or highly respectful first meetings with high-status people.

Beginners overuse 안녕하십니까 because textbooks introduce it early. In cafés, classrooms, and casual workplaces, 안녕하세요 usually sounds more natural.

Never mix speech levels randomly in one short exchange. Match the other person’s level, or stay one notch more polite as a learner.

With close friends you may later hear 안녕 (no 요). That is 반말. Wait until the relationship clearly allows it.

안녕하세요 / 안녕하십니까 is taught here as “Hello (polite) / Hello (formal deferential).” Learners often stop at a flashcard gloss; real fluency needs collocations, speech level, and one or two sentences you can actually say today.

Listen to the Hangul, shadow it once slowly, then once at natural speed. If romanization helps the first day, turn it off the second day so your eyes lock onto 안녕하세요 / 안녕하십니까, not Latin letters.
