으니까 vs 아서/어서

Try it freeContrast quizPick the right form in a mini quiz.Open →

Explanation

-아서/어서 often links natural reason or sequence: 배가 고파서 먹었어요.

-(으)니까 is strong for justification and reasons before suggestions/commands: 바쁘니까 나중에 해요.

Many textbooks discourage -아서 right before imperatives. Prefer 으니까 there.

Mistake: only learning one “because” and forcing it into every register.

Level: elementary. Read both sides of the contrast, say the examples out loud, then write one correct and one incorrect sentence and fix it.

Cross-link: open the related grammar or tools page the same day so the fix sticks in your study graph.

Examples

비가 와서 집에 있었어요.

It rained, so I stayed home.

비가 오니까 우산 가져가세요.

Common mistakes

  • Translating the English pair word-for-word without checking which Korean form carries the real distinction.
