조차 vs 마저

Explanation

조차 marks an extreme “even”: 이름조차 기억 안 나요.

마저 often implies the last remaining item is included: 돈마저 잃었어요.

Both are stronger than plain 도 for “even.”

Mistake: treating them as free synonyms of 도 in beginner sentences.

Level: intermediate. Read both sides of the contrast, say the examples out loud, then write one correct and one incorrect sentence and fix it.

Cross-link: open the related grammar or tools page the same day so the fix sticks in your study graph.

Examples

마지막 기회마저 놓쳤어요.

Common mistakes

  • Translating the English pair word-for-word without checking which Korean form carries the real distinction.
