TOPIK overview
Explanation
TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) is the main standardized exam for non-native Korean. Employers, universities, and visa processes may reference TOPIK levels — but many learners also use it as a structured milestone.
TOPIK I (levels 1–2) has listening and reading only. TOPIK II (levels 3–6) adds writing and raises the linguistic ceiling: longer texts, abstract topics, and productive writing under time pressure.
Scores map to levels via official cutoffs that can be revised; always check the latest guide for your test date. Use a calculator after mock tests to translate raw section scores into a level estimate.
A practical beginner path: (1) solidify Hangul and high-frequency grammar, (2) build a 1,000–2,000 word active recognition base, (3) do timed listening/reading sets weekly, (4) only then specialize in writing templates if you need TOPIK II.
