At a bank, 계좌 means account, 통장 means bankbook, 체크카드 means debit card, and 번호표 means queue ticket. 계좌를 만들고 싶어요 is an accessible beginner sentence for “I would like to open an account,” while 계좌를 개설하고 싶어요 is a more formal banking expression.
Ask 필요한 서류가 뭐예요? for the required documents and 외국인도 만들 수 있어요? for whether a foreign national can open it. This page teaches language, not eligibility or financial advice. Products, documents, identity checks, and resident-status requirements vary by bank and case.
For related services, 체크카드도 신청하고 싶어요 asks to apply for a debit card too, and 모바일 뱅킹을 신청할 수 있어요? asks whether mobile banking can be set up. If a staff member gives several steps, 천천히 설명해 주세요 asks for a slower explanation.
For transfers, 해외 송금을 하고 싶어요 means “I would like to make an international transfer,” and 수수료가 얼마예요? asks the fee. Confirm the recipient, currency, amount, and bank instructions on the actual form rather than relying on a memorized sample.

- Do not infer eligibility or required documents from a sample dialogue. Ask the specific bank and follow its current process.
How to practice
- Write the exact service you need in Korean before taking a queue ticket.
- Practise recognizing 어떤 업무 보러 오셨어요? as the opening “What service are you here for?” question.
- Ask staff to separate account, card, mobile-banking, and transfer steps instead of trying to answer everything at once.
- Repeat numbers, currencies, names, and recipient details back before confirming a real transaction.
