Explanation

처음 뵙겠습니다 is a respectful expression for meeting someone for the first time. 뵙다 is the humble form related to 보다, “to see or meet.”

It commonly follows 안녕하세요 in a formal introduction. The sequence sounds especially appropriate in business meetings, introductions through another person, interviews, and meetings with someone senior.

The expression emphasizes that this is the first meeting. 만나서 반갑습니다 instead emphasizes being pleased to meet the person, so the two expressions can appear together.

In relaxed everyday introductions, 만나서 반가워요 may sound warmer and less formal. Match the rest of your speech level rather than memorizing one fixed script for every situation.

Hello. I am Erik from Sweden. It is nice to meet you.

네, 만나서 반갑습니다.

Yes, I am pleased to meet you.

Common mistakes

  • Do not use 처음 뵙겠습니다 when you have already met the person unless you are correcting a misunderstanding or joking.
  • Do not reduce the rest of the introduction to casual speech immediately after this formal expression.

How to practice

  1. Place 안녕하세요 before it in a complete first-meeting opener.
  2. Add your name or role before or after it depending on the flow of the introduction.
  3. Use 만나서 반갑습니다 as a compatible follow-up, not as a word-for-word duplicate.
