Explanation

This is language practice, not medical advice. At reception, 예약했어요 means “I have an appointment,” 처음 왔어요 means “This is my first visit,” and 진료받고 싶어요 means “I would like to see a clinician.” In an urgent situation, use the relevant emergency service rather than relying on a language page.

A clinician may ask 어디가 불편하세요?—“What is bothering you?” Name the body part with 이/가 아파요: 배가 아파요, 머리가 아파요, or 목이 아파요. You can add 계속 for continuously or 많이 for severely, but describe what you actually feel rather than guessing a diagnosis.

When asked 언제부터 아팠어요?, answer 어제부터요, 사흘 전부터요, or 오늘 아침부터요. Other useful facts are 열이 있어요 or 열은 없어요, 알레르기가 있어요, and 복용 중인 약이 있어요—“I take medication currently.”

At a pharmacy or before leaving, ask 이 약은 하루에 몇 번 먹어요?—“How many times a day do I take this medicine?” If you do not understand, 다시 설명해 주세요 or 천천히 말씀해 주세요 asks for another or slower explanation. Follow the actual clinician’s and pharmacist’s instructions.

Key lines

  • 어디가 불편하세요?: What is bothering you?
  • 배가 아파요: My stomach hurts
  • 언제부터 아팠어요?: Since when has it hurt?
  • 알레르기가 있어요: I have an allergy
  • 복용 중인 약이 있어요: I currently take medication
  • 다시 설명해 주세요: Please explain it again

Common mistakes

  • Do not invent a Korean diagnosis when you are unsure. Describe the symptom, location, timing, and observable facts.
  • The omitted subject in 아파요 depends on context. Name the body part when it could be unclear.
  • Do not guess medicine timing from a sample sentence. Ask the real clinician or pharmacist and follow their instructions.

How to practice

  1. Prepare a short list of symptoms, start time, allergies, and current medicines in both Korean and your strongest language.
  2. Practise recognizing 어디가 불편하세요? and 언제부터 아팠어요? as complete listening chunks.
  3. Point to the body area while using 여기 아파요 if you cannot recall the noun.
  4. Use 다시 설명해 주세요 whenever an instruction is unclear instead of pretending to understand.
