Explanation

교환 means exchange. 교환해도 돼요? asks whether an exchange is allowed, a useful opening at a customer-service desk.

Bring the item, receipt, and any tags when possible. Staff may ask 영수증 있어요?, meaning “Do you have the receipt?”

If you want a refund rather than an exchange, say 환불해도 돼요? Refund rules can be stricter, so do not assume the two words are interchangeable.

You can explain a size problem with 사이즈가 안 맞아요: “The size does not fit.”

Examples

사이즈가 안 맞아서 교환하고 싶어요.

Saijeuga an majaseo gyohwanhago sipeoyo.

The size does not fit, so I would like to exchange it.

영수증이 있어야 해요?

Yeongsujeungi isseoya haeyo?

Do I need a receipt?

Mini dialogue

A: 이거 교환해도 돼요?

A: Can I exchange this?

B: 네, 영수증을 보여 주세요.

B: Yes, please show the receipt.

Common mistakes

  • 교환하고 싶어요 says what you want; 교환해도 돼요 asks permission.
  • 안 맞아요 means “does not fit/match,” not “is not correct” in every situation.

How to practice

  1. Use a calm polite tone; store policies differ.
  2. 교환 is exchange, while 환불 is a refund to the original payment method.
