Explanation

만나서 반가워요 (mannaseo bangawoyo) is a warm, polite way to say “nice to meet you” in Korean. Use it after names are exchanged or after someone introduces you.

The phrase literally combines 만나서, “because we met,” with 반가워요, “I am pleased.” Learn the full expression first; it sounds natural as one greeting even when you are not analysing the grammar.

For a more formal first meeting, say 만나서 반갑습니다. 처음 뵙겠습니다 is another respectful expression that specifically emphasises that this is the first time you have met.

A natural reply is 저도 만나서 반가워요, “Nice to meet you too.” In a formal setting, reply with 저도 만나서 반갑습니다.

반가워요 by itself can also mean “Good to see you,” including when meeting somebody again. The full 만나서 반가워요 makes the first-meeting meaning clearer.
