Explanation

카드 돼요? is a very common spoken question meaning “Does card work?” or “Can I pay by card?”

되다 means “to work / be possible.” Korean often leaves out the longer object phrase because the payment context is clear.

For a fuller polite version, say 카드로 결제할 수 있어요? (“Can I pay by card?”).

Examples

카드 돼요?

Kadeu dwaeyo?

Can I pay by card?

네, 카드 돼요.

Ne, kadeu dwaeyo.

Yes, card is accepted.

Mini dialogue

A: 카드 돼요?

A: Can I pay by card?

B: 네, 여기 놓아 주세요.

Common mistakes

  • 돼요 is the correct spelling here, not 되요.
  • 카드 주세요 means “Please give me a card,” not “Can I pay by card?”
