Explanation

사진 means photo and 찍어 주세요 means “please take.” 사진 좀 찍어 주세요 is a polite request to a stranger, fellow traveler, or friend.

좀 softens the request. Here it does not literally mean “a little”; it makes the sentence sound less abrupt.

To say “Please take a photo of us,” add 저희: 저희 사진 좀 찍어 주세요. You can then hand over the phone and point to the camera.

찍다 also means “stamp” or “film” in other contexts, but 사진 makes the meaning “take a photo” clear.

Examples

저희 사진 좀 찍어 주세요.

Jeohui sajin jom jjigeo juseyo.

Please take a photo of us.

세 장만 찍어 주세요.

Se jangman jjigeo juseyo.

Please take just three photos.

Mini dialogue

A: 실례합니다. 사진 좀 찍어 주세요.

A: Excuse me. Please take a photo.

B: 네, 여기 서세요.

B: Sure, stand here.

Common mistakes

  • 찍어 주세요 asks the other person to take the photo; 찍을게요 means “I will take it.”
  • 장 is a counter for photo prints, but for phone shots the phrase is still commonly understood.
